ABOUT

          Teaching Hospital Batticaloa is located in 7.9 Hectares of high land in the Manmunai North Divisional secretariat area of Batticaloa district. Teaching Hospital Batticaloa is the oldest hospital in the Eastern Province and serving a population of more than two million in the Eastern Province and adjacent districts.

           The People of eastern Province have heavily suffered from the three decades of internal conflict and Tsunami of 2004 in the past and they have not yet fully recovered from these disasters. Due to the efforts taken by the Government of Sri Lanka in the recent past, the health indicators such as immunization coverage, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, death due to infectious diseases etc are improving in the Eastern Province.

 

           Provincial General Hospital Batticaloa was upgraded as Teaching hospital Batticaloa November 17, 2006 (Circular) to cater to the training needs of Medical student of Faculty of Healthcare Science of eastern University of Sri Lanka.
